We have four different membership classes.  They are as follows:  

Active Member

Those persons who qualify for membership according to the following qualifications may become Active Members:

(a) Any individual who lives or works in Kentucky and has graduated from an ABA approved program of study for paralegals; 

(b) Any individual who lives or works in Kentucky and has graduated from a course of study for paralegals which is institutionally accredited, but not ABA approved, and which requires not less than 60 semester hours of classroom study;

(c) Any individual who lives or works in Kentucky and has graduated from a course of study for paralegals, other than those set forth in (a) and (b) above, plus not less than one year of in-house training as a paralegal, whose attorney-employer attests that such person is qualified as a paralegal;

(d) Any individual who lives or works in Kentucky and has received a bachelor’s degree in any field, plus not less than one year in-house training as a paralegal, whose attorney-employer attests that such person is qualified as a paralegal;

(e) Any individual who lives or works in Kentucky and who has a minimum of three years of law related experience under the supervision of an attorney, including at least one year of in-house training as a paralegal, whose attorney-employer attests that such person is qualified as a paralegal; or

(f) Any individual who lives or works in Kentucky and is a CLA® certified by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. or is an RP® certified by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations.

Associate Member

A person who has successfully completed a curriculum of training as a paralegal or who is certificated or degreed by a university, college, junior college or other school as having successfully completed the full course of studies prescribed for training as a paralegal, and who is not currently employed as a paralegal or a person who meets the requirements for Active Membership except:

(a) that the person does not work or reside in the Kentucky; or

(b) that the person does not meet the required one year in-house training as a paralegal and who would otherwise qualify for Active Membership except for these requirements.

Student Member

 A person who is either a full-time or part-time student in good standing in any university, college, junior college or other school pursuing a course of studies as a paralegal. Any person seeking Student Membership in this Association must submit, at the time of application verification of enrollment in a paralegal program.

Sustaining Member


Any law firm, corporation, business, institution or paralegal educator who endorses the paralegal concept, and is interested in supporting the association may qualify for Sustaining Membership.
